Rudes had a vision for J Brand, to create a jean that fit so perfectly it followed the contours of one’s body. He launched the brand as an exclusive line at Ron Herman’s Melrose jean bar in the spring of 2005, and it became an immediate success with consumers, notable celebrities and influential editors. With the introduction of the dark washed skinny jean, J Brand was the first company to drive this trend. “In an exceedingly competitive market, one of our greatest accomplishments was to go beyond what we were known for, the skinny jean, and deliver the next trend – the bell bottom we called the ‘Love Story,'” says Rudes.
